Driving While Impaired Services (DWI)
In the state of North Carolina, anyone who is convicted of a DWI must complete a Substance Use Assessment, also referred as a DWI Assessment. Individual must complete either an education (ADETS) or Treatment program, depending on the results of assessment, completed by a fully Licensed or Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (LCAS/CSAC) by an approved licensed DWI Facility.
License Re-instatement (after Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) revocation period), one must:
- Complete a substance use assessment
- Complete an education program (ADETS)/Recommended Treatment
- Pay Fees:
– Assessment = $100 (State Mandated)
– ADETS = $160
– Treatment = Varies (based on Assessment)
Assessments:
- MUST be conducted face-to-face by a qualified or certified substance use professional (LCAS/CSAC), utilizing both a standardized instrument and clinical interview
- Verification of Breathalyzer or blood test analysis results
- The assessor must have a copy of your “Complete Driving History” from DMV
- Client is required to bring court documents/judgment (can obtain from Lawyer or Clerk of Courts)
- Client must NOT be under the influence of Alcohol or any illicit substances. NOTE: You will be turned away and will be charged for clinician’s time set for assessment or treatment
NOTE: You have 6 months from the completion of assessment to begin education or treatment. If you fail to begin recommended education or treatment; you are REQUIRED to complete a NEW assessment and pay $100 “state-mandated” fee.
